How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Based on the story by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)
and

'Twas the Night Before Christmas
Adapted and Directed by Ann Deacon
Based on the poem by Clement Clarke Moore

“Inside a snowflake, like the one on your sleeve, there happened a story you must see to believe.”

The Grinch, a bitter, cave dweller, with a heart "two sizes too small," lives on snowy Mount Crumpit , just north of Whoville, home of the merry and warm-hearted Whos. His only companion is his faithful dog, Max. From his perch high atop Mount Crumpit , the Grinch can hear the noisy Christmas festivities that take place in Whoville. Envious of the Whos' happiness, he makes plans to descend on the town and to prevent Christmas from coming. To his amazement, Christmas comes anyway, and the Grinch discovers the true meaning of the holiday...

"A Visit from St. Nicholas" (also known as “The Night Before Christmas and
'Twas the Night Before Christmas from its first line) is a poem written by Clement Clarke Moore, first published anonymously in 1823. It is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today, including his physical appearance, the night of his visit, his mode of transportation, the number and names of his reindeer, and the tradition that he brings toys to children. Prior to the poem, American ideas about St. Nicholas and other Christmastide visitors varied considerably. The poem has influenced ideas about St. Nicholas and Santa Claus beyond the United States to the rest of the English-speaking world.

Running time: 45 minutes with no intermission
Recommended for ages 5 and above.

A Child's Christmas in Wales
Adapted and Directed by Michael Barker
Based on the story by Dylan Thomas

For almost half a century, Dylan Thomas' A Child’s Christmas in Wales has entranced both young and old and has become a familiar part of the holiday-season landscape. With lovely poetic lilt, this simple tale captures the child's eye-view and an adult's warm remembrance of the time of presents, good things to eat, and, in the best of circumstances, newly fallen snow.

"I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or twelve days and twelve nights when I was six." Despite the fact that this is a Welsh Christmas and the music is Welsh, Dylan Thomas has managed to universalize the very essence of Christmas, as any child anywhere might perceive it.

The story is a lyrical journey back to the magic and marvel of boyhood where no two moments were ever alike and life was embraced with belief instead of doubt. On a special Christmas Eve, a grandfather shares heartwarming memories with his dearly loved grandson. In one evening he does more than recall his cherished youth... he relives it.

A Child’s Christmas in Wales Concert
Before each performance of Child’s Christmas, musical guests Siri Bardarson and James Hinkley will perform a selection of British, Celtic, and Welsh folk songs, and discuss the history of English holiday music.

Running time: 45 minutes with no intermission
Recommended for ages 10 and above.

Prior to each matinee, kids and families are encouraged to visit
Elf’s Workshop to make holiday crafts and gifts.

Parents should contact the WICA Ticket Office about dropping off the kids while you finish up (or begin) your holiday shopping!
