The Need.

WICA’s diverse selection of year-round programming is strategically planned to satisfy a broad mix of local audiences. A rigorous production schedule results in scheduling that is always tight, performances that sometimes occur on other groups’ stage sets, and desired programming that must be passed over or compressed in order to accommodate the production schedules of adjacent shows.

In the last several seasons, staff necessary to support the operation has grown significantly. Cramped administrative space, including the revenue generating Box Office, is shared by multiple employees and numerous volunteers, and is not adequate. Other interior space has become increasingly crowded as well, and costumes and props must be stored in cramped hallways and packed closets. All the stage sets are built in a bay of the adjacent “bus barn,” with most assembly and finish work occurring either onstage or outside in the parking lot. Finally, there is very little prop storage on site and with the current state of the facility, most props are sold or donated after each production, which in turn impacts the cost of securing props for future productions.

Additionally, limited, often overbooked, space minimizes the amount of educational and training programs WICA is able to provide the community.
